Watching the firetrucks and police cars.
The Higgins family watching the parade.
Afterwards, we headed to Whidbey Island for a BBQ and fireworks at the Scheps (the Youngs' friend's) house. The boys enjoyed the ferry ride over although they made their daddy a little nervous climbing up on the rails and leaning out over the water. He elected me the swim expert of the family expressing that if one of the boys jumped I would be the one to rescue them. Luckily, no such problem arose.
He just looks like he's going to jump!
We arrived at Matt's house before anyone we knew did, but received a warm welcome anyways. The house was beautiful nestled amongst the trees with several acres of property. There was a basketball court, volleyball net, playset with a sand box, trampoline, tether ball (how Napoleon Dynamite!), and two huge jump houses. The boys kicked off their shoes and climbed into the nearest bouncy house closely followed by their daddy.
Clay in the bouncy house.
The boys spent more then 50% of the time in the sandbox.
Shortly after we got there the Youngs, the Knaptons, Jenye's family, and the Wilsons showed up sunburned and hungry. The BBQ was a blast there were tons of people and kids. We played volleyball, ate food, and hung out with our boys (I even got Jon to play some volleyball!!). When it got darker the kids played with sparklers and pops and then everyone settled on the grass for the most amazing firework display we've ever seen at private home. They went all out! Unfortunately, my older two boys were horrified and snuggled against daddy, heads hidden until they fell asleep (Who can fall asleep during a firework show you ask; now you really know how loud my house is!) Jerrae and Chris were serenading us with every patriotic song they could think of and once they ran out of those they moved on to any song about America, thanks guys! What a memorable 4th!
Jerrae, me, Andrea, Jenye and Lindsey (Jenye's little sister) in the middle.
Somebody gave Clay a sparkler before telling him that they are hot. The moment it burned out he touched it and burned his finger.
Ahh...he takes after his parents; cleaning up after all the kids were done playing with their sparklers. I'm so proud!
Before the fireworks...

The best picture is of Clay's head hanging off the side of the ferry. I can just picture Jon's face.
